At July 10th, 2009, we met with four gentlemen in Kecskemet/Hungary at Gong Radio. These four persons were Dr. Gabor Gönczi, President of the Hungarian Association of Veterinarians, Dr. Süth Miklós Senior Veterinarian in Hungary and Secretary of State of the Ministy of Agriculture and Environment, Dr. Gábor Lorászkó, Chairman of the Animal-Welfare Section of the Association of Veterinarians and Dr. Gergely Bárándy, Deputy of the Hungarian Parliament, attorney in the section criminal law.
Judit Tözsér, chief of Gong Radio and founder of the animal shelter Mentsvar. Judit Tözsér did organize this meeting. The meeting with the gentlemen showed us that animal-welfare ist taken very serious in Hungary.
Elke Otte, our chairwoman and Annamaria Imm-Koczian as translator had a very interesting conversation with the veterinarians.
During the talk we heard, that the Hungarian Association of Veterinarians founded an animal-welfare section in December 2008.
This section listed its aims and duties in a certificate of incorporation:

Dr. Miklós Süth hat in dem Radiogespräch darüber berichtet, wie wichtig der Unterricht in den Schulen über die Tiere ist. Es ist wichtig, der neuen Generation den richtigen Umgang mit Tieren zu vermitteln. Er sagt, es muss in den Unterrichtplan integriert werden.
Dr. Gergely Bárándy tries to persecute every case of animal abuse, which comes to his knowledge. He is able to tighten the laws and to control, that the laws are followed.
For sure this is not a simple job in Hungary, but we have somebody there, who takes his aims, in the interest of the animals, serious. Besides that, the veterinarians want to support a nationwide castration of domestic animals. The killing camps should be converted into animal shelters.
Another idea of the veterinarians is to institute a dog license fee in Hungary.
They told us, that it would be expedient, to create a scaling. If someone owns a dog, a certain amount should be paid for it. But if this dog is castrated and marked and if it gets its vaccinations continously, the amount should be lower. Until now Hungary did not establish a dog license fee. Registration of dogs by a marking is not very common in Hungary.
Althoug the Asscociation of Veterinarians posseses a modern database and a registry system, there are unfortunately only a few domestic animals, which could be registered there. Therefore the Association of Veterinarians pleads for the marking of animals. Dr. Gábor Gönczi told us, that this fails, like so many other things, on a lack of money.
We made the proposal, to put the plans of the Hungarian Association of Veterinarians , as a project, on our web-site and to collect donations. The veterinarians were barely able to speak, out off their happiness and astonishment. At first, they didn't want to believe, that we already collected donations for many projects and emergencies, using our hompage.
Of course they agreed and said a thousandfold thank you for the support.: A project, which the veterinarians want to achieve for the animals of their home country. There is a chance for the stray animals in Hungary, there is a chance for the domestic animals in Hungary, there is a chance, that the senseless killing of animals ends.
…... and there is a chance to show Europe, that it is possible, that it works. To recognize the problems and the overpopulation of the domestic animals in the homecountry and to solve it in a human manner. Killing of animals is no solution. No country got the problems with stray animals under control with this procedure.
Finally there is a chance.
Please help us and support our project for the veterinarians in Hungary.
If you are also in the opinion that this project is worth to be supported and you are in the opinion, too, that the killing camps in Hungary should be converted into animal shelters, then we need money to reach this aim.
