Court case opened
The hell of Cicerale – happy ending in sight
For the first time, national and international achieved that a owner of a Canile in Italy has been accused because of abuse to animals. And even the Italian Health Ministry and the Italian media accompany the group of claimants… This is a huge and so far unique success!
It is expected that this dog camp of Cicerale will be closed down. We hope that this will have an announcement effect for whole Italy.
The court case will be continued in October 2010…
Here you can read the translation of a report in the Italian press:
2th of April 2010
Cicerale – owner has been accused
This news has not yet been published in any other national daily newspaper, but you can find it on different internet websites from animal rights organizations, for example Amicicani, Lav, Oipa Bezirk Salerno (on facebook) and Chiliamacisegua.
Mauro Cafasso, carrier of Oasi S. Leo, better known as Canile from Cicerale, the terror Canile, hell of Cicerale and other bad descriptions, will be accused. The attorney Renato Martuscielli will obviously accuse Mr. Mauro because of abuse to animals, accommodation of animals under incorrect conditions, incorrect disposal of effluent and animal bodies.
This news should have been announced by the legal coordination department, founded for the support of the health ministry and the court of Vallo della Lucania. The department should support the ministry and the court to close down the Canile of Cicerale.
There are also several animal rights organizations, which belong to this coordination department. They are well known both in corresponding circles and beyond, for example Lega Nazionale per Difesa del Cane, LAV, Associazione Canili Lazio, Animals Asia Foundation, Oipa and Enpa. Some of these alliances decided to arise as joint plaintiffs.
On Monday, 29th of March 2010, the first day in court in the court case against the former owner of the infamous Canile (which is ironically named oasis) will take place. This result was just possible because of collective efforts. And these efforts are just incredible.
Apart from the different animal rights organizations, two of the most powerful forces, media and politics, took part in this fight for the close down of the Canile.
According to politics, there goes a huge thank you to subsecretary Francesca Martini. She was incredibly active (as usual you might say). Active because of her efforts, the Canile had been closed several times, but actually again reopened and reassigned to the same owner because of bureaucratic reasons.
The Odyssee went to an end, when Mrs. Martini in person sent the Carabinieri to the Canile. After her visit it has been distrained. All this happened in 2008, after, and because we honestly have to say that, countless complaints and parliamentary inquires had led to nothing.
Gaetana Ferri and Mrs. Dott also belong to the team of Mrs. Martini.
According to media, there have been two major forces. First we want to name the well-known broadcasting “Striscia la Notizia”, which showed millions viewers the terror of the Canile quite plainly. And there is the hero-journalist Stefania Piazzo, who added something to this success. On the sites of the newspaper “La Padania”, she permanently reported about the offenses (let’s call it like this) in the Canile run by Cafasso and the bureaucratic problems, which hinder the final closing every time. Comment of the Pfotenhilfe Europa:
You can see that it is quite not senseless and can lead to success, when again and again someone indicates grievances, petitions were signed, protest letters were sent and when we work for a collective ambition. Usually it is a very hard and slow-walking way, but it can pay off. Cicerale is one of the worst animal shelters in Italy. The walls will certainly fall and we are very happy about it. The Pfotenhilfe Europa says thank you to everyone, who signed the petition Cicerale and who sent letters to politicians and the Italian media. We also would like to say thank you to journalist Stefania Piazzo and the politician Francesca Martini. Their bravery has now been rewarded. And we also would like to thank all Italian animal rights activists, who never gave up their objective to help the dogs in this hell and continued consequently.
