trust Rex helps animals in need!
The foundation Rex from Budapest cares with a lot of voluntary workers about animals in need. Because of the chemical accident, there already had been a lot of victims, people died and pets and wild animals perished. The area on the periphery of the disaster is abolished and further animal victims are expected.
Animals, which wondrously survived the poison accident, are partially badly injured. They had direct contact to the poisoned mud. Their water supply and their feeding opportunities had been contaminated, too.
The assistants of the animal shelter Rex help since the disaster happened. They help together with volunteers, the police, the civil protection and the local municipalities and rescue injured animals. Every day, new animals arrive and the supply and accommodation of them becomes a real problem. They urgently need Hungarian foster homes.
Left animals in the disaster area:
Fortunately only few not catchable cats live in the disaster area, but no feral pets. Animals, which had been left in closed gardens, are now supplied by their owners or animals welfarists.
In the community Kolontar were about 200 there living dogs counted. A lot of them are chained and should there be a second bursting of the dam, the animals will be in mortal danger.
The Hungarian union of friends of animals and nature and the foundation Rex currently negotiate with the authorities about a possible evacuation of endangered animals in that area. However the authority for animal health has the opinion that an evacuation is not necessary at the moment. And so the animal welfarists go to the affected dogs, cats, horses and goats to supply them every day and to observe the situation in this obviously endangered area.
To rescue the animals, a countrywide solidarity is necessary. The organizations need urgently help from possible foster homes, from animal shelters who agree to accommodate some of the emergency cases for a while.
The rescued ones!
They have preponderant bad injuries on eyes or their skin. Furthermore, the red mud causes corrosion on the mucosa. All rescued animals had been first cleaned and freed from the red mud.
During the last days, about 25 dogs, a lot of catkins, 1 lamb, 1 horse, puppies, ducks and small domestic animals could be rescued. The local helpers expose themselves to great dangers, too, but they continue their work indefatigable. The nights are very short and the days are long and exhausting. The rescued animals will probably have to wait very long until they can come back to their homes.
The local animal shelters are overcrowded and Hungarian foster homes were urgently searched. In the complete contaminated are, help is urgently needed. The helpers in Hungary urgently need help.
“O Lord, bless the nation of Hungary
With your grace and bounty
Extend over it your guarding arm
During strife with its enemies
Long torn by ill fate
Bring upon it a time of relief
This nation has suffered for all sins
Of the past and of the future!”
(Ferenc Kölcsey )
That’s how the Hungarian anthem starts and there will be no better fitting text for this country.
