Brutal killings in Moscow
Natalia Gracheva: I don’t know what to say
I’m just back from Russia and I could just cry! I couldn’t watch the following film until the end.
We urgently need help! PLEASE!
Foster homes, flight sponsorships, donations, dog crates!
Yesterday night, we organized the first transportation to Vyborg (approx. 1000 km). Our drive went there and back without sleep, to bring the next dogs out of Moscow. But the animal shelter of Irina Subbotkina is too small to accommodate all. And they don’t have enough feed.
But at the moment it is our only chance to bring out as much dogs as possible, because the killing law is only valid for Moscow but not the region St. Petersburg.
The girls take pictures and make videos under life-threatening circumstances. The killing orders are mostly foreign workers from Tadzhikistan. Usually they don’t speak Russian very well and they are very aggressive.
I have a lot of documentary and pictures of Moscow but that would be too much for an e-mail. I just wrote to everyone who helped us once (also flight sponsors, donators, etc), because at the moment I don’t have time to write a reasonable text or to translate it.
If someone don’t want to receive this, I am very sorry, please ignore my e-mail. But after two weeks in Russia I had to write to all of you.
Last week we and some animal rights activists from Moscow entered the opposition against this new court order. An international organization had been founded, were our organization (www.hundehilfe-russland.de) is member of. We try to appeal it judicial and hope that it helps, because for Russia it is very important what the foreign countries think about them.
A press conference had been organized and we wrote an open letter including thousands of signs. It has been assigned to the authorities of the city (personally to Medvedev and Putin).
We actually received a message that we will get a feedback and that they will think over the problem and find a solution together with us.
Many supported us, what was really appreciated. We saw that this topic touched many people in Russia, because until now, there have been a lot of organizations, which tried independently from others to improve animal protection. But this wasn’t successful. You can see it in the adjustment.
Of course you cannot bring all dogs to foreign countries. Every serious person knows that. But in Moscow there are several 10,000 of them. What shall we do now?
Let them die?
Passing by and closing the eyes?
Thanks to our members, donators and helpers, our organization could rescue more than 200 dogs this year. Just a drop in the bucket of several 1,000 stray dogs in Russia, but there are about 200 dogs who LIVE and who have a new home. And these dogs are very proud of it (look at me, I’m a house dog, I have a family!!! I am not hungry and I even have several toys). After reading this success stories and seeing these pictures you just want to continue, even it JUST rescues some lifes.
I think it was Leo Tolstoi who said: If someone doesn’t make anything or just less, is that the beginning of a crime?
Last week in Moscow I realized how important team spirit is. I tried to bring together several animal welfarists, which led to discussions which took ages.
It doesn’t matter whether it is about the life of Spanish, Croatian or Russian dogs. The animals are not able to help it were their home is or were they were born. Life is Life.
Please believe me, I don’t want to receive a title or tell someone what’s right or wrong. I just feel terrible at the moment, after all I’ve seen during the last days. I feel powerless and I write from my soul with the hope that we find a solution.
We have to!!! Because so many lifes depend on it. The lifes of those, who cannot speak on their own. Who cannot say: I am hungry, I feel pain, please do not kill me….what have I done to you???
I search for new solutions for the dogs in the metropolises, except castrations (which are already well known).
What will you do with about 30,000 or 40,000 stray dogs in Moscow? Except of killing them of course?
Having borough dogs in Megapolis, where dog houses are built in the courts of skyscrapers and were the inhabitants of this court (about several 100 families) feed them, build enclosures and were the children can play with the dogs?
The caretaker would be responsible for castration and who receives €1,00 per month from every family to cover the accessory charges?
For now it’s utopistic but we are searching for solutions and the delegates of the Duma asked for what we can offer to present alternatives to the killing law. Can someone help us with ideas?
If someone wants to have something translated into Russian, please refer to my daughter Valeria Gracheva (valeria.gracheva(phu)googlemail.com). If someone speaks Russian, it would be great to have some help with translating texts. We are both employed and we cannot answer and translate all questions. For questions within the EU, please refer to Gudrun Ostwaldt or our member Bianca Heiden (who today rescued and adopted 3 dogs). On our homepage www.hundehilfe-russland.de, you will find all data. www.hundehilfe-russland.de vorhanden.
For the next two days, we organized transportation from Moscow to Dusseldorf. But we urgently need dog crates, suture material for castrations. We cannot take feed and blankets at the moment, because there is not enough space.
We need flight sponsors (thanks to Christiane!!!), who take the weekend off to fly to Helsinki tomorrow morning and will come back the evening with several dogs. You don’t need a Visa because it’s in the EU and you can take 5 dogs with you. And it’s cheaper than flying to Moscow or St. Petersburg.
We need donators for flight tickets…
