Starting the project
The project of the Hungarian Association of Veterinarians
Many of you certainly remember our appeal for the castration project of the Hungarian Association of Veterinarians.
Here you again can inform yourself about it. In April 2010, anew meeting was held. The Pfotenhilfe Ungarn / Europa, represented by Birgit Lewe, the shelter Mentsvar, represented by Judith Tözsér and MD Gábor Lorászkó of the Hungarian Association of Veterinarians took part.
During this meeting, the Pfotenhilfe Ungarn / Europa could deliver the first amount of €1,500.00, completely financed by your donations (thanks to all donators!!!) to the Hungarian Association of Veterinarians.
Then detailed conversations about the concept followed. Subsequently a circumstantial broadcast about the project including interview was sent on the Hungarian radio-station Gong Radio.
Last Monday, the project successfully started. Gábor Izsák brought the first five female dogs to the veterinary hospital to Budapest, where they had been castrated.
These dogs would have produced 2920 offspring in the upcoming next three years, when calculating with four surviving dogs per litter and two litters per year.
These by the castration avoided puppies will not have to live a life full of agony, hunger and without a real home.
The dogs were castrated for free by the hospital in Budapest. The aftercare of about one or two weeks is also offered for free and the dogs can stay there for the time of the aftercare.
Only the transportation of the animals to Budapest has to be financed on own costs. Starting next Monday, 10 female dogs will be accommodated per week and then they will be castrated and medically treated. After their recovery, they will be brought back to the place, where they originally came from.
The dogs come from different animal shelters and from private owners, who cannot and would not finance the castration on their own.
In total, about 100 female dogs can be castrated this way, during the first campaign.
We are very glad that this project could start now. But that would not have been possible without the help of our dedicated Hungarian animal welfare associates and because of the great support by our donators. It is an approach which promises improvement in the effective animal protection policy.
You all played your part that now the first steps are done to minimize the animal agony at the face.
We hope for a successful further cooperation with our Hungarian associates and for support of our active combatants and of course of a long-lasting continuation of the project.
