Interview
PHE: As a veterinary specialist in animal behavior lore and animal protection lore you are familiar with many animal protection projects. In your opinion, was there a change in the European animal protection?
Fr. F-P.: No, not really. A European animal protection act would be a real advance, but there isn't one.
PHE: How do you assess the failed adoption of a European animal protection act because of 99 missing votes?
Fr. F-P. : Capital regrettable and very sad!!!
PHE: Do you have animals from animal protection yourself?
Fr. F-P.: Not at the moment, but earlier.
PHE: At your work as a veterinary specialist you probably were in contact with many animal rights activists. Did you notice some behavioral abnormality on "used" dogs in contrast to dogs which were going through many hands.
Fr. F-P.: Yes, absolutely. These dogs where often very jumpy, shy and socially deprived. But there were also others who were not conspicuous.
PHE: If you would choose a motto for animal protection under, would it be?
Fr. F-P.: Knowledge protects animals.
PHE: It's hard to understand that even in the 21st century many countries are not able to interact appreciative with animals. Animals are mutated into disposable items. What do you think could change this behavior?
Fr. F-P.: It is a problem with many causes, i think. Alienation from nation, normality, self-understanding in the handling of animals is missing. The interpersonal handling is suffering from hardness and lack of means. Urban, technological life has glazed us apparently, it overstrains people, they take damage. The bad treatment of animals is in my opinion a lack of empathy.
PHE: Did you know the "Pfotenhilfe-Ungarn" or "Pfotenhilfe-Europa" before this interview?
Fr. F-P:Yes.
PHE: What projects you are planning for the future?
Fr. F-P: Projects on human-animal-relationship. Education is needed and hopefully guides us out of this blind alley in which many people are placed.
One of her newest Books is "Ausdrucksverhalten beim Hund. Mimik, Körpersprache, Kommunikation und Verständigung" (Expressive behavior of dogs, mimic, body language, communication and notification), published by Franckh-Kosmos Verlag.
