Voting about the destiny of stray dogs postponed!
Dear animal friends,
The Voting in the Romanian Parliament, which decides about the law, which should regulate the “Euthanasia” of stray dogs, has been postponed.
The law in question, which should legalize the killing of stray dogs, had been concluded by a committee last week and then had been handed over to the Parliament for the final voting. The Voting should take place on 12th April 2011.
Yet the new law has been in planning stage, animal protection organizations worldwide protested against it and ask for an amendment of the law or for the enforcement of the draft law 912/2007 in the form, which had been accepted the Romanian Senate. The draft law says the following treatment of stray dogs: Catching – Castrating – Identifying – Return (of the healthy and unaggressive dogs), as well as a control of breeding dogs and their owners.
Carmen Arsene, vice president of the organization “Nationale Foerderung zm Schutz der Tiere (FNPAIA – national aid for the protection of animals)says the following about the current situation in the Romanian Parliament to Green Report: “The conference had been ended. The law had not been discussed today, because it was a very low listed point at the agenda. It has been postponed to next Monday”. She furthermore reports: “There are currently about 150 people in the balconies of the Chamber of Deputies, who watch and tune in the decision of the administration board about the law that will affect the destiny of stray dogs. Even the decision had been postponed to next the week, we will organize further demonstrations in front of the building of the Parliament. About 400 people will take part.

And here, you can see a video of Maja von Hohenzollern in the Romanian television, dated 2011-04-12.
Princess Maja of Hohenzollern again makes clear that is does not care, how the Voting in the Chamber of Deputies will end, the international protests will never end. Furthermore Romania is already known as the “country of dead dogs”. She furthermore reports about petitions in hand with more than 100.000 signatures from all over the world (amongst these also your and our signatures, because we and a lot of other organizations provided them to Maja von Hohenzollern). She also tells about a Facebook campaign, in which thousands of members changed their profile picture to show solidarity to the dogs in Romania and about demonstrations all over Europe, like the demonstration on Saturday, 2011-04-16 in Berlin.
We will keep you informed about this topic.
